The Bible is a Reliable History Book
Scripture Memory Work:
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:13 - 2:3
In this portion of scripture, Peter explains to the early church (and to us!) about the reliability of the Scriptures, and the testimony of the disciples, as being true. He also goes on to warn us that there will be teachers who rise up and deny the truth, teaching lies with the intent of leading many astray. We can see this happening all around us, as many scholars, historians, and scientists in today's day and age are rejecting the creator, God, and claiming that the world came into existence "by chance" and not by design. They deny the existence of God, and teach lies in the attempt to lead people astray, and convince people that the Bible is not reliable or true. Peter warned that this would happen, and it is! Therefore, it is all the more important to teach our children the truth -- that the Bible IS reliable and true! And we need to cling to the truths of Scripture all the more, so that we will not be deceived or lead astray by false teachers.
Biblical History. We absolutely love Douglas (or, more accurately, Jay-Jay, his puppeteer!). Douglas Talks is, by far, the best puppet show I have ever seen, and the Douglas Talks videos are just amazing! We found this particular episode to be a really great introduction to historical accuracy of the Bible. You may also consider watching the entire series of “You Can Trust the Bible”, but for this particular history lesson we just watched the Biblical History episode.

What in the World? Ancient Civilizations and the Bible. More geared towards older students. These audio lectures by Diana Waring give a Biblical account of world history that is exciting, informative, and insightful. This is part of the History Revealed program. Our family isn’t doing the History Revealed program (we started, but decided we liked the Mystery of History better); but we still use the “What in the World?” audio lectures to supplement our history program.
